About

The creation of the marine restoration toolbox was funded by the European Commission through the Horizon Europe program. While the CLIMAREST project initiated the creation of the Marine Restoration Toolbox, this is a living initiative meant to grow and change with the marine restoration community!

Who developed the marine restoration toolbox?

This toolbox was developed as part of the CLIMAREST (Climate Restoration Actions in Arctic and Atlantic Coastal Ecosystems) project funded through the EU Mission: Restore our Ocean and Waters. The project included scientists, restoration experts, and industrial partners from across Europe with the aim of developing a "blueprint" for restoration actions with a specific emphasis on up-scaling (i.e., through the creation of roadmaps and replication sites).

Where do the demonstrations in the Marine Restoration Virtual Lab come from?

In the marine restoration toolbox, you will find tools and demonstrators of tools developed as part of the CLIMAREST project. Each demonstration site helped to build the tools connected to that site. For example, the BioIntertidal mapper tool for monitoring seagrass area extent using remote sensing tools was developed by the Irish team and the data used to demonstrate how the code functions is for the Irish case where a seagrass reintroduction campaign was initiated in 2022.

Who is maintaining and developing the marine restoration toolbox?
